Optimism (OP) liquidations explained
Optimism is a scaling network, and its OP token trades as a leveraged perpetual on the big futures exchanges. Smaller order books than Bitcoin mean OP liquidation clusters can move the price a lot.
How to read the OP liquidation heatmap
Every bar is a price level where a large amount of leveraged OP positions would be liquidated. The longer the bar, the more money sits there.
- Green bars above price are OP short liquidations. If Optimism rises into them, shorts are forced to buy – that can push the price up faster.
- Red bars below price are OP long liquidations. If Optimism falls into them, longs are forced to sell – that can accelerate a drop.
- The gold line is the current OP price.
Why traders watch OP liquidation magnets
Large liquidation clusters attract price because they hold a lot of liquidity. Once a OP cluster is hit, the forced orders can cause a quick spike or wick – after that the level is usually "used up". Many traders use the nearest big cluster above and below as short-term targets and as zones where volatility can jump.
FAQ
What is a Optimism liquidation heatmap?
It shows the price levels where many leveraged OP futures positions would be force-closed. Short liquidations sit above the OP price, long liquidations below it. The bigger the bar, the more positions are stacked there.
Where are the biggest OP liquidations right now?
The heatmap on this page updates every minute. The two cards on the right show the nearest large OP liquidation cluster above the price (shorts) and below it (longs), with their distance and estimated size.
Why do liquidation levels act like magnets?
When price reaches a large cluster, forced buying (shorts) or forced selling (longs) kicks in and can accelerate the move. Traders watch these levels as likely targets and as zones of higher volatility.
How is this heatmap calculated?
MMTC Pulse estimates OP liquidation clusters from Binance Futures price candles and open-interest changes over the last 21 days, combined with common leverage levels. It is a model estimate, not the exchange's real order book.
Can I get an alert when OP gets close to a liquidation level?
Yes. The free MMTC Pulse iPhone app sends a push notification when OP gets within 0.8 % of a liquidation magnet and when a magnet gets hit – no account needed.
