How to read the heatmap

  • Time and price: each column is 15 minutes, the height is the price. The price axis is on the far right, the time at the bottom.
  • Colour: the brighter a zone (from dark through purple and teal to yellow), the more leveraged positions the model expects to be liquidated there. Weak values are faded out on purpose so the real clusters stand out.
  • Candles: price in 15-minute candles (green up, red down). The white tag on the right is the current price.
  • Liquidity profile: the bars on the right edge show the estimated liquidity per price now (average of the last 45 minutes). Labelled bars are the strongest magnets, e.g. “106.2 · $4.1M”.
  • Dots: liquidations actually triggered on Binance, Bybit and OKX – red for longs, green for shorts. Bigger dots = bigger amounts.
  • Reconstructed: slightly darker columns were computed afterwards from price and open-interest history, before live recording started.

FAQ

What is a liquidation heatmap?

A liquidation heatmap shows at which price levels leveraged futures positions would be force-closed – and how these zones change over time. Bright bands are areas with a lot of estimated liquidation volume. If price runs into them, forced selling or buying can briefly amplify the move, which is why such zones often act like magnets.

How do I read the heatmap?

Time runs horizontally (24 hours in 15-minute columns), price vertically. The brighter the colour, the more liquidations the model places there. Above the price are mainly short liquidations, below it long liquidations. The bars on the right show the liquidity profile now; the labelled ones are the strongest magnets. Hover over or tap the heatmap to see the price, estimated volume and actual liquidations at that spot.

Where does the data come from?

The heatmap is a model estimate by MMTC Pulse: from prices and open-interest changes on Binance futures it estimates where positions with typical leverage (5× to 100×) would be liquidated; levels already swept drop out. A new column is recorded every 15 minutes. The dots are actually triggered liquidations that Pulse collects continuously via the public interfaces of Binance, Bybit and OKX. Candles come from Binance futures (Bybit or OKX as a fallback).

Are these real orders or price targets?

No. The zones are estimates, not orders in the order book, and they do not predict whether price will reach them. Large clusters can shift or unwind quickly. The heatmap is an information tool, not investment advice.

What does “Reconstructed” mean?

For the time before live recording started, the heatmap was computed afterwards from price and open-interest history. Those columns are slightly darker; from the thin vertical line on, the values were recorded live.

How current is the heatmap?

The server records a new column every 15 minutes. The page reloads the data about every two minutes while it is open. The time at the top of the panel shows when.

Why only BTC, ETH and SOL over 24 hours?

In the browser we show the three largest coins for the last 24 hours. The MMTC Pulse app has the heatmap for 12 futures coins and over 3, 7 and 30 days – more coins and ranges with Pulse Pro.
